Soda and bean can garden bubbler

I've long been in need of a bubbler to diffuse water flow. They're great for watering, because you can turn the hose way up and it will fill a contained bed really quickly without digging a hole.

I don't know where to buy them these days though, and then realized I could pretty easily make one myself.

It works like a charm, and is made from trash, which is about as cheap as things get.

If you don't have a piece of hose with a fitting you can buy a fitting at most any hardware store. I might even someday replace the hose piece in this bubbler with a slightly larger diamer one that I could just stick my spray nozzle into for quick connect/disconnect.

Build instructions:
First you will need: A drill, a steel can, an aluminum can, a length of garden hose and assorted short and longer screws. If you don't have an appropriate length of hose laying around, you could use a piece bought new with a female hose coupling added on (you can get those in the gardening section of most hardware stores).
Drill a bunch of holes in the steel can. You don't have to be too meticulous about their placement. This thing isn't going into an aerospace application or anything.
Punch a bunch of holes in the aluminum can. Again, this isn't rocket science. You can be extremely haphazard here, because you won't even be able to see what you do here when you're done.
Now affix the aluminum can inside the steel can. A few short screws around the top and one longer one through the bottom will do the trick. The bottom one is the one that's really structurally important, so don't strip its hole.
Stick a piece of hose through the mouth of the inner can and put a screw through it. In this picture there's no coupling, but you'll probably want one.

Kapow! You're done.
