Red oak bamboo skewer knife block

I built a fancy version of my previous bamboo skewer knife block.

This one is made out of red oak instead of pine, and not only did it cost a lot more in lumber, it cost a lot more in time. The finish alone was hours of rubbing.

It was a wedding present though, and I hope it stays with them forever.

This project has also inspired the beginnings of a new one for us, because to be honest the one I made before is kind of lame. I spent all day laminating together thin sheets of reclaimed pallet wood and packing gaps with putty to make us a highly polished, but clearly reclaimed version.

It's going to be great.
